Memorial House
The memorial house where J. Stalin was born was built in the XIX century. This territory was known as “Rusubani” (Russian district). Kviratskhoveli St.№10. In this house built of Georgian brick, Stalin’s parents rented a room and a basement, where Stalin’s father made shoes for the rich people of the town.
In the room where Jugashvilis’ family lived there are articles of that period and in the second room where a landlord lived personal things of Stalin’s mother are exhibited.
The memorial house was opened in 1937. The protective pavilion (architect – M. Neprintsev) over it was built later.
Memorial Things
- Stalin’s personal study in 1918-1922
- The black telephone set made by “Simens” from Stalin’s first office.
- A fountain pen made by the German firm “Pelican” was used by Stalin at the Potsdam conference.
- Pipes used by Stalin
- Stalin’s last packet of cigarettes “Herzegovina Flor” with two pieces of cigarettes. Stalin had no time to smoke them.
- Stalin’s Marshal’s greatcoat and a service cap
- A wooden casket made by Stalin’s son Vasili as a present to his father. In one corner there is an inscription “For memory to Dad” and in the other corner – “From Vasya. 21.12.31.”
